Dana, or generosity, is one of the “perfections” that those who follow the teachings of Buddha seek to cultivate. When practiced, Dhammadana and Sanghadana bring immense punya – merits. These merits will in turn support one to get the opportunities to progress on the path. It is highly valued as a spiritual practice. Dana also purifies the mind and reduces defilements, especially greed and attachment and related fear and anxiety.
