The Abhidhamma

The Abhidhamma is a body of literature that emerged shortly after the lifetime of the Buddha. It is comprised of the third of the “three baskets” (Tipitaka) of the early Buddhist canon. In it, man is described as a psycho-physical being consisting of both mind and matter, and it gives a microscopic analysis of the human being. Abhidhamma can facilitate comprehending the teachings of Buddha from the perspective of a minute analysis of mind and matter into their ultimate elements. This gives a view into the teachings of impermanence and no-self (anicca and anatta).
